Hello!

Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Colleen Mahoney (go figure) and this is my new monthly blog where I'll share a little insight into the meaning behind my songs, a behind the scenes look at my journey into the world of music, as well as a few other musings.

But before I get ahead of myself, a little introduction is probably in order...

I'm 20 years old and have been writing music for about 12 years now (although I hope my writing skills have improved since then). I have sung in many professional choirs and have been active with the music ministries in the Churches I have attended. Yet, even with music being such a large part of my life, it was only over the past few years that I really have begun to take it more seriously.

I've always wanted to be a musician, but I never knew how to go about pursuing it as a career. To be honest, I still don't have a 100% grasp of the process, but as I'm discovering, there's not always a manual on how to move forward. So, I decided to take it one step at a time and began taking piano lessons a couple years ago. Before that, I had been writing music by ear, and now that I know what I'm playing, it sure makes sharing my music with other musicians much easier! Don't get me wrong, I still have a lot to learn, but sometimes learning can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the journey as long as you stop to notice the little victories along the way.

On top of trying to take music more seriously, I'm also currently studying Psychology at university. I actually stumbled across the field completely by accident, but that's a story for another entry. I love learning about what makes humans tick and I have to be honest, it really has helped improve my song writing. It's given me an insight into humanity that I didn't have before and some of my best songs (at least in my opinion) have been inspired by lessons that I had in psych classes.

And that's pretty much where I am right now... A lot has happened in my life so far and I'm looking forward to what this new year will bring, but most of all, I can't wait to share my new adventure with all of you!
